I started taking pictures way back in
high school, where I was the
yearbook photographer. My trusty
Nikon EM
got a lot of use those last couple years of high school, including for
hire at a bunch of weddings. At the time, I was seriously considering a career in photography and can still
remember poring excitedly over those glossy
Brooks Institute brochures. Lack of money was probably the
reason that career path didn't get taken, but the exact details are
fuzzy. (Incidentally, I finally visited Santa Barbara in
July 2001 and made a point of driving out to the Montecito campus to have a look
around.) Once in Toronto the camera was quickly forgotten and it
gathered dust for 15 years or so until I dug it out last year. Alas, the
meter was broken beyond reasonably-priced repair. I took the camera
shop's advice and bought a used
FG to replace it. The FG takes my old
EM E-series lenses and
provides a bit more manual control. Around the same time, I bought a
Canon Powershot S10
digital camera, which I love, and the FG
hasn't gotten much use as a result. My picture-taking has still been
kind of sporadic, but there's little danger of the hobby going dormant
for another 15 years. On this page, real soon now, you'll find some of my pictures. |
