11 December 2004

Entering my teenage years in rural Nova Scotia in the late 70s, before the internet, with just two TV channels to choose from, and a few hours' drive from a decent book store, Boston radio talk show host David Brudnoy was an oasis in an intellectual desert. First on WHDH, then WRKO, I went to bed listening to his show every weeknight. His demeanor was not at all like what comes to your mind when hearing the phrase "talk radio host" today. David was intelligent, thoughtful, funny, and polite. He was interested mainly in ideas, not partisan politics. David Brudnoy's death this week from cancer is a real loss for civil, reasoned public consideration and debate of ideas. Rest in peace, Dr. Brudnoy.
