Rally Report

This will be brief as I was up at 6AM this morning in order to hand out rally leaflets at Union Station before work and I have a race early tomorrow AM. The pictures tell most of the story anyway. It went well, despite the snow storm and freezing rain. I estimate, completely unscientifically, that a couple of thousand people were there but reports vary above and below this. Regardless, it was a pretty impressive turnout considering the weather.

Lots of big-name speakers: Premier Ernie Eves, Reform Party leader Stephen Harper, and even a couple of Liberal MPs. The latter were booed mercilessly. My favorite speaker was Scott Brison, a PC Party leadership candidate. Very principled support of the US for the right reasons and a very skillful orator.

Anyway, here are a couple of press reports and you can click on the montage to see all the pictures I took.

Update: Kathy Shaidle has her own rally report and David Janes (whose permalinks are busted at the moment) finds bias at the CBC (gasp!) in covering the event.

Update II: Scott Brison's speech is online. But I'm pretty sure he didn't say most of this at the rally. Or maybe I zoned out for part of it. Anyway, the good stuff I recall is in the 2nd half.

Update III: I made the news! See the first video, "Pro-U.S. demonstrators rally in downtown Toronto," on this page at CTV. That's me waving my flags for about 5s starting at approximately the 13-second mark.
