Heeere's Abbey!

Here's my favorite niece, Abbey (almost a month old already!), making her World-Wide Web debut.

You may now melt.

Henry Says Goodbye

Henry's Diary was started in 1999. In it a father chronicles the daily life of his son. Last week, Henry's Diary recorded its final entry.

It’s time for Henry to grow up in private. He’s the greatest kid a father could ever hope for and I wish I could return the favor; I’m trying.
Take a look at the site if you haven't already. The entries are simply and beautifully written. The pictures capture a boy's life perfectly. It adds up to a very moving experience.

We know you're a lucky kid already, but all the same: Good luck, Henry.

Endorphia

Running down Mt. Pleasant Avenue, CN tower peeking above the trees, setting sun glinting off it, and the latest Pet Shop Boys CD as background music: a combination good for the spirit.

(The CD is very good, including the killer guitar solos. Hmm. Pet Shop Boys. Guitar solos. Is the end nigh? Whatever, it works.)

So-so Spider-Man

I saw Spider-Man, by the way. I'm afraid Lileks' build-up may have been a bit too much. I liked it enough to not regret going, but was kind of let down. The first third or more was very slow; the rest was better, but it didn't quite come together for me. On the other hand, two others who saw it with me weren't expecting much and were pleasantly surprised.

On a related note, I was also a target of this PR-firm spamming as a result of my previous post.

Judy, Judy, Judy

I'd say "there goes the neighbourhood," but my neighbourhood is not exactly a haven for rational political viewpoints as it is. Still, this can't be good:

Judy Rebick, a long-time feminist activist and socialist pundit, will hold the inaugural CAW-Sam Gindin Chair in Social Justice and Democracy at Ryerson University, it was announced yesterday.

Ms. Rebick, host of CBC's weekly women's discussion show Straight from the Hip and former head of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women, will lecture students and guests on social justice at the Toronto school for three years.

The honorary chair, named for Mr. Gindin, an economist who retired in 1999 after 26 years as a strategist for the Canadian Auto Workers Union, is funded by a $1-million donation from the union, which will be matched by the school with privately raised funds.

I'll have think up something appropriate to shout out should I run into Ms. Rebick rushing to class some day.

But What Does He Really Think?

Wow. I think I'll see Spider-Man this weekend.

Damian hits the big time. Way to go, Damian!

Dear Abbey

Abigail Victoria Quentin Wickens was born just before 9pm Nova Scotia time last night, making my brother Quent and his wife Lisa first-time parents, Mom and Dad first-time grandparents, and me a first-time uncle. This kid will be spoiled.
